About the Course

M.Tech. Thermal Engineering is a 2- year postgraduate course divided into 4 semesters, each lasting a period of 6 months. The course involves real-time applications of fluid flow and heat transfer in Thermal Energy Systems, Cryogenic Engineering, and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning etc.

Thermal Engineering is a study of energy transport particularly in nanoscale structure to obtain knowledge and understanding of the scientific effects on the physical world that can engineering discoveries in industrial energy applications. Thermal engineering is heat transfer, thermodynamics, energy conversion, and HVAC applications.

About The Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1995 with an undergraduate programme in Mechanical Engineering. Over the last two decades, the department provides an excellent opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering and applied research for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The department is running three different specialization courses (Thermal Engineering, Machine Design, and Energy Management) in post graduation level and also a recognized research center for conducting Ph.D. programme under Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University (CSVTU), Bhilai Chhattisgarh. The department has the modern infrastructure to undertake high-end teaching, research, and development activities in its modern laboratories, besides highly experienced faculty. The department provides an effective learning platform for understanding the application of basic engineering in the field of thermal, energy management, the design of machines, production, robotics, and computer-aided design and manufacturing etc. Interdisciplinary work is key to our department’s success. Our faculties and students work together in collaborative environments, forging partnerships across campus and with many government agencies and industry partners. It provides quality learning with the widest applicability and most flexibility in terms of career paths.

Scope of the Branch

  1. There is enormous scope for thermal engineering. Any system which deals with temperature needs a thermal engineer. As far as the job is concerned, companies which manufacture heat exchangers, A.C.s, Refrigerator etc needs thermal engineers for designing such stuff. Students may also work in thermal power plants, hydro-electric power plant etc. Here you can work for designing the plant layout with your team or also go for monitoring and maintenance.
  2. Thermal engineering may be practiced by mechanical engineers and chemical engineers. One or more of the following disciplines may be involved in solving a particular thermal engineering problem: Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics, Heat transfer, or Mass transfer. One branch of knowledge used frequently in thermal engineering is that of thermo fluids.

Placement

  1. Thermal engineering help in Thermal engineers to design, develop, test, and manufacture Thermal devices, including tools, engines, and machines. They may make sketches and rough layouts, record and analyze data, make calculations and estimates, and report their findings.
  2. Thermal engineering help in as Natural sciences managers supervise the work of scientists, including chemists, physicists, and biologists. They direct activities related to research and development, and coordinate activities such as testing, quality control, and production.
  3. Thermal engineering help in Nuclear engineers to research and develop the processes, instruments, and systems used to derive benefits from nuclear energy and radiation. Many of these engineers find industrial and medical uses for radioactive materials—for example, in equipment used in medical diagnosis and treatment.
  4. Thermal engineering help in Petroleum engineers to design and develop methods for extracting oil and gas from deposits below the Earth’s surface. Petroleum engineers also find new ways to extract oil and gas from older wells.

We help students succeed in their careers by helping them discover a field they're passionate about and empowering them to lead in it. Choose from a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and diploma courses.
